 Bong Joon Ho

Bong Joon Ho - Wikipedia

Bong Joon Ho is a famous filmmaker from South Korea known for making unique and out-standing movies.

Born in 14 September 1969, Bong Joon Ho stand out with his power of mixing genres and unpredictable  stories.

The reason I choose Bong Joon Ho is the style of mixing genres which I want to do in my FMP. By learning and watch his techniques my final piece would stand out like Joon's movies.

Saul Leiter born in 1923 was an American photographer and painter known for his quiet, poetic images of everyday life, especially in New York City.

I chose Saul Leiter as a style inspiration because his photography captures emotion in a subtle and thoughtful way. Instead of showing obvious actions or expressions, his work focuses on quiet, everyday moments that feel personal and reflective.

I also chose his style because I want to express clear and meaningful emotions in my work, which will help me achieve a stronger and more effective outcome for my FMP.

His approach allows me to communicate feeling in a more creative and deeper way, rather than something too direct or simple.

About JR

undefined

I have chosen to draw inspiration from the work of JR for my posters, as his style combines photography with powerful visual storytelling. His large-scale black-and-white portraits focus on real people and authentic emotion, creating an immediate and engaging connection with the audience. This is something I aim to achieve throughout my FMP.

My project includes a poster, a short film, and a press kit, so it is important to establish a consistent and recognisable visual identity. JR’s use of bold, high-contrast imagery will allow me to develop a strong aesthetic that can be applied across all elements of my project. His work demonstrates how a single image can communicate meaning effectively without relying heavily on text, which is particularly relevant to poster design.

Another reason I have chosen to reference JR’s style is his consideration of context and placement. While my work will not exist in public spaces in the same way, I intend to apply similar thinking through careful composition, scale, and message. I want my posters to feel impactful and thought-provoking rather than purely decorative.

Furthermore, JR’s work often explores themes of identity, community, and representation. These themes closely relate to my short film, and adopting aspects of his visual style will help reinforce these ideas across my project. By focusing on expressive portraiture and a limited colour palette, I can direct the viewer’s attention towards emotion and narrative.

Overall, I have chosen JR’s style because it is visually striking, conceptually strong, and adaptable across multiple formats. It will enable me to produce a cohesive and meaningful body of work, linking my poster, film, and press kit into a unified final outcome.
